Side Left

Side LeftThe left side of the website is the area in the left side of the screen that contains that extra bit of information to display on the web pages. It can contain a sub-menu, announcements, some additional links, advertising, sales announcements, or whatever you like. It also helps to frame the content of the webpage and give the website that finished look.

The side left file can be the same on every page it can be different for each section of your site by slightly changing the file name and a line of code on the main web page that includes the file into that page. For now, just understand that it can be done, and be done easily.

The side left consists of the "sideleft.inc.php" file, five small images, and a section of the cascading style sheet (CSS).

The cascading style sheet will actually do the drawing of the box that contains the left side of your site. It does this by using one image that consists of a single pixel repeated over and over again to create the sides of the box to give it a nice and neat framed look.

The other four images are small files that look like curved corners. The cascading style sheet will take these four corners and lay them over the top of each corner of the box. The curved corners are put on over the top of the square box giving it the appearance of a box with rounded corners. Pretty nifty, huh.

The actual code in the "sideleft.inc.php" file takes the cascading style sheet (CSS), all five images, and the content you want to display and brings them all together.

Ok, now that you kind of have the idea of how this works, let's take a look at those images.
